Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in power within the urban setting.

Warning: Revealing details for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

Episode 3 concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of adventurers who will separate from the main group to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.

This warrior group consists of Teor (played by Travis), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.

Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the group knows exactly where to head next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing started the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The antagonist then paid off his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each character has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, wants revenge.
  • The adventurer knows the northern area and advises that it is a hostile place.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could help the team reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, Teor swore a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The target is marked for death by House Halovar.

This means them no alternative but to head to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.

What’s Next?

According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Explorers and Strategists parties.

Audiences can expect finding out which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
