Lando Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at each of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the closing stages of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before sprint qualifying due at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in realistic title contention, trailing 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his team opted for a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he rotated at Turn Four soon after starting.
The Japanese lost control over the exit kerbs before sliding over the gravel trap, and was blessed to avoid just a slight brush of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the final moments of the practice, rotating twice through the quick descending corner approaching the final corner on to the pit straight.
The veteran ended the session in 19th, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber P3, over half a second slower than Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
